Nigel's clients benefit from his exceptional range of experience gained in a career which has spanned both the public and the private sectors.
Commissioned into the Royal Artillery while reading for a degree in mathematics at Durham University, Nigel served in the UK and Germany and on three Northern Ireland tours, leaving the Army as a captain following appointments as Intelligence Officer and Adjutant.
At the Home office from 1976 to 1985, Nigel dealt with social policy issues spanning Government in the Crime Policy Planning Unit, and established the newly independent HM Inspectorate of Prisons, reporting directly to Parliament. He spent three years in Private Office working to Ministers, including 18 months as Private Secretary to the Home Secretary, Leon Brittan.
In 1985, Nigel moved to the City, joining Schroders Corporate Finance Department, working on floatations, acquisitions and disposals. Nigel's clients included well known FTSE 100 companies as well as small fast-growing businesses. He was the Director of Schroders responsible for the logistics and marketing of the £5.2bn floatation of the UK water industry.
Since 1997 Nigel has been an independent strategic adviser. He has advised chief executives of some 50 companies, both quoted and privately owned and across many industry sectors, helping them deal with a wide range of commercial, structural, ownership and governance issues.
Nigel has been a board member of eight not-for-profit organisations, including Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Almeida Theatre, and One Housing Group. He chaired The Trust for London and the creative writing charity, Arvon for nine years until June 2014. He remains Chairman of the medical research charity Fight for Sight.
He is married, has two children and two step-children, and lives in Highbury, North London.
